Yesterday was definitely a better day, weather wise, than we’ve been having, but I still wasn’t all that motivated to ride. I got to the barn dressed to ride. I pulled out wraps and my saddle pad and other equipment with the intention to ride. I just couldn’t get inspired enough to tack him up.
I brushed him, which he really needed because he’s started to shed. Then I decided to take him for a walk. The sun was out and it was warming up outside more than in the indoor, but the ground was still frozen. Perfect – no mud. Now, I didn’t get on him and go for a trail ride. I took the lead rope and walked him like a dog. We just went around our usual path – down to the river, behind the neighbor’s house, and back up the driveway. He was up but only got a little unruly when the neighbor’s horses ran up to us to say hello over the fence. It was good to get him out. I think it helped our relationship because it was something different but he still had to pay attention to me. It was fun.
