Rain, Rain Go Away (Actually Wind)

We made it through Hurricane Sandy largely unscathed.  Well, my household did. We lost power for only 3 days, our basement didn’t flood, and no trees in our yard toppled.  Our neighbors weren’t so lucky – there are many trees and large branches down all around town.

The barn still has no power but this year they have a generator, so the horses have water. Their house has a wood burning stove that heats basically the whole thing, so the humans are comfortable.  It’s still a pain not to have lights.  There are also quite a number of trees down in the pastures but no fences were knocked out.  Getting to the barn is a haul, since most roads are closed and those that are open have nonworking traffic lights, making crossing intersections dangerous.  Some other friends (and my parents) still don’t have power.  But all-in-all, me and mine made it through in one piece.

Now that I have power I can watch the news and it’s just horrible the devastation elsewhere.  I hope you are all safe.  If anyone has any Sandy stories they would like to share, please feel free to post here.
